SI-19 Tinggong
SI-19 Tinggong (聽宮) is a point on the Small Intestine meridian. In TCM theory it is described as influencing the channel's qi, and it is traditionally used in the context of the whole pattern rather than as a stand-alone remedy. This page explains how to locate it, what the tradition says about it, and how to press it safely.
Location
In the depression anterior to the tragus, with the mouth open.
How to find it
Open the mouth slightly. The point is in the hollow just in front of the ear canal opening.
Traditional functions
- Benefits the ears
- Clears heat from the ear and jaw
- Moves qi in the face
Traditional uses
- Ear stuffiness and tinnitus in traditional practice
- Jaw tension
- Facial pain
- Ear discomfort
How to press it
With the mouth slightly open, press gently for 30 seconds, one side at a time.
Acupressure is generally a gentle practice. Use the pad of the thumb or finger, start with light pressure, and increase only to a comfortable level. A mild ache or warmth is common; sharp pain is a signal to ease off.
Safety
Do not press deeply or into the ear canal. Avoid with an active ear infection.
How this is viewed today
SI-19 appears in trials for tinnitus and temporomandibular disorders. Evidence is mixed.
