PC-5 Jianshi
PC-5 Jianshi (間使) is a point on the Pericardium meridian. In TCM theory it is described as influencing the channel's qi, and it is traditionally used in the context of the whole pattern rather than as a stand-alone remedy. This page explains how to locate it, what the tradition says about it, and how to press it safely.
Location
Three cun above the wrist crease, between the tendons of palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis.
How to find it
From the wrist crease, measure about four finger-widths up the forearm, between the two central tendons.
Traditional functions
- Jing-river point of the Pericardium meridian
- Transforms phlegm
- Calms the spirit
Traditional uses
- Palpitations and anxiety
- Nausea
- Chest tightness
- Restlessness
How to press it
Press gently for 1 minute on each arm.
Acupressure is generally a gentle practice. Use the pad of the thumb or finger, start with light pressure, and increase only to a comfortable level. A mild ache or warmth is common; sharp pain is a signal to ease off.
Safety
Avoid strong pressure over an injured forearm; chest symptoms need medical evaluation.
How this is viewed today
PC-5 is used in trials for anxiety and nausea, usually in combination. Evidence is limited.
