LU-5 Chize
LU-5 Chize (尺澤) is a point on the Lung meridian. In TCM theory it is described as influencing the channel's qi, and it is traditionally used in the context of the whole pattern rather than as a stand-alone remedy. This page explains how to locate it, what the tradition says about it, and how to press it safely.
Location
At the elbow crease, on the radial side, in the depression lateral to the tendon of the biceps brachii.
How to find it
Bend the elbow to 90 degrees. Find the central biceps tendon in the crease; the point is in the hollow just to its thumb side.
Traditional functions
- He-sea point of the Lung meridian
- Clears lung heat and descends qi
- Benefits the elbow
Traditional uses
- Cough with heat in the classical description
- Sore throat
- Elbow discomfort
- Chest tightness
How to press it
Press gently for 30–60 seconds with the elbow slightly bent. The area is sensitive.
Acupressure is generally a gentle practice. Use the pad of the thumb or finger, start with light pressure, and increase only to a comfortable level. A mild ache or warmth is common; sharp pain is a signal to ease off.
Safety
The brachial artery and nerves run nearby. Do not press deeply; stop if you feel tingling into the hand.
How this is viewed today
LU-5 appears in trials for cough and elbow pain, usually in combination with other points. Evidence is limited.
