LR-8 Ququan
LR-8 Ququan (曲泉) is a point on the Liver meridian. In TCM theory it is described as influencing the channel's qi, and it is traditionally used in the context of the whole pattern rather than as a stand-alone remedy. This page explains how to locate it, what the tradition says about it, and how to press it safely.
Location
At the medial end of the knee crease, with the knee flexed.
How to find it
Bend the knee. Follow the crease to its inner end; the point is in the hollow there.
Traditional functions
- He-sea point of the Liver meridian
- Nourishes blood and yin
- Benefits the knee
Traditional uses
- Knee pain
- Menstrual patterns in traditional practice
- Lower-abdominal discomfort
- Dryness
How to press it
Press gently for 30–60 seconds, then move the knee slowly.
Acupressure is generally a gentle practice. Use the pad of the thumb or finger, start with light pressure, and increase only to a comfortable level. A mild ache or warmth is common; sharp pain is a signal to ease off.
Safety
Avoid strong pressure on an inflamed knee or over varicose veins.
How this is viewed today
LR-8 is used in acupuncture for knee pain and gynecological symptoms. Evidence is limited.
