LR-14 Qimen
LR-14 Qimen (期門) is a point on the Liver meridian. In TCM theory it is described as influencing the channel's qi, and it is traditionally used in the context of the whole pattern rather than as a stand-alone remedy. This page explains how to locate it, what the tradition says about it, and how to press it safely.
Location
On the lateral chest, directly below the nipple, in the sixth intercostal space.
How to find it
Find the nipple line, then move down to the space between the sixth and seventh ribs.
Traditional functions
- Front-mu point of the Liver
- Moves liver qi
- Harmonizes the chest and ribs
Traditional uses
- Chest and rib tension
- Irritability
- Breast tenderness in traditional practice
- Digestive upset with stress
How to press it
Use flat fingers and very gentle pressure for 30 seconds. Breathe slowly.
Acupressure is generally a gentle practice. Use the pad of the thumb or finger, start with light pressure, and increase only to a comfortable level. A mild ache or warmth is common; sharp pain is a signal to ease off.
Safety
Avoid deep pressure over the rib cage or breast tissue. Chest pain or a breast lump needs medical evaluation.
How this is viewed today
LR-14 is used in clinical practice for chest and stress-related patterns; research is sparse.
