BL-60 Kunlun
BL-60 Kunlun (崑崙) is a point on the Bladder meridian. In TCM theory it is described as influencing the channel's qi, and it is traditionally used in the context of the whole pattern rather than as a stand-alone remedy. This page explains how to locate it, what the tradition says about it, and how to press it safely.
Location
In the depression between the lateral malleolus and the Achilles tendon.
How to find it
Find the outer ankle bone. The point is in the hollow between that bone and the Achilles tendon.
Traditional functions
- Jing-river point of the Bladder meridian
- Benefits the low back and head
- Relaxes the ankle
Traditional uses
- Low-back pain in traditional practice
- Heel and ankle discomfort
- Headache
- Neck stiffness
How to press it
Press gently for 1 minute on each ankle, avoiding the tendon itself.
Acupressure is generally a gentle practice. Use the pad of the thumb or finger, start with light pressure, and increase only to a comfortable level. A mild ache or warmth is common; sharp pain is a signal to ease off.
Safety
Strong pressure at BL-60 is traditionally avoided during pregnancy. Avoid with an injured Achilles tendon.
How this is viewed today
BL-60 is used in acupuncture trials for low-back and ankle pain. Evidence is limited.
